SANDRA TRICAMO

Sandy Tricamo teaches in a variety of settings.  She teaches yoga for employees at Covidean and Boeing Leadership  Center,  students taking her class for credit at St Louis Community College, and yoga students at the Jewish Community Center.  She also lectures on the importance of exercise, mainly yoga, at health and wellness fairs at the University of Missouri St Louis.    At Covidean and Boeing her classes grew by word of mouth.  Employees there practice before and after work, and during lunch as both a stress reliever and an energizer.  They find that their practice enhances their productivity and use of sick leave.    Sandy's students at  SLCC have been surprised by what they learn in her class.  The class consists of both lecture and practice, and covers history, practice styles, how yoga affects parts of the body, and more.  Her students gain a new awareness of yoga and how difficult it is.    Sandy has taught yoga for 12 years.  When her job with the Department of Defense moved, she lost her job.  "A lot of my life was altered by that , and I decided to pursue yoga as a career, and to accomodate what was going on in my life.  Yoga was a coping mechanism for me and I wanted to share the feeling of peace that I received with others."   Her students seem to agree.  Some have commented to her that their day is always easier with yoga.  The patience and kindness destresses them and they are more calm, more tolerant, in other situations at home and at work.    Sandy invites her family  to experience yoga.  Her grandchildren are small, but she tries to get them interested in yoga.  One of her daughter in laws and one of her sons have taken her class at the community college and were pleasantly surprised.     Her other interests include riding motorcycles and travelling all over the US with her husband,  renovating her historic home, and gardening.   Sandy has done runs such as the St Patrick's runs, and the Susan B Koman Race for the Cure with her two youngest sons.  "I have a general interest in fitness and wellness.  This is a priority for me," she explained.
